Bulgaria abounds in hydrothermal
resources, unique in composition (over 600
mineral springs with temperatures between 10o C
and 102o C) and known for their curative
properties even in antiquity. The climate is
healthy and has a marked curative effect in
certain regions of the country. The varied
relief, warm sea, fresh verdure and mountain
air, combined with various treatment procedures,
exert a favourable influence on a number of
ailments. The Black Sea spa centers combine
seaside holidays with hydrotherapy and mud
treatment. Successfully treated are conditions of
the respiratory tract, cardiovascular diseases,
disorders of the nervous system. stress,
disturbances of the metabolism and the
reproductive system, skin diseases, disturbances
of the locomotion system, etc. The best-known spa
centers are: Grand-hotel Varna at St. Constantine
resort, Ambasador Hotel at Golden Sands resort, Dobroudja Hotel at Albena resort, the Bourgas and Globus
hotels at Sunny Beach resort, Pomorie Hotel in the
coastal town of Pomorie. Inland spa resorts also have
plenty to offer. Located in some of the
country's most scenic regions, they combine
spa and climatic treatment, phytotherapy,
electro- and ionotherapy, herbal and fruit cures.
The best known ones are Sandanski - beneficial to
the treatment of bronchial asthma; Hissarya -
known for the successful treatment of urological
and liver diseases; and Kyustendil - for
conditions of the bones, joints and tendons,
disorders of the nervous system, cardiovascular
diseases, disturbances of the reproductive system
and sterility.
